Our Mission
We unite Americans demanding our government increase investment in children and decrease wasteful military spending.
We advocate for increased spending allocations for the following:
Nutrition Programs- These programs provide school meals to children from low-income households. Without this support nearly 20% of school children would not meet their nutritional needs and in turn will fail to meet their full academic potential. The negative health outcomes relating to malnutrition cost our country billions of dollars each year. We must increase NOT decrease funding for these programs.
Brain Tumor Research- The National Cancer Institute spends more money on AIDS research than it does on Brain Cancer research despite Brain Cancer being the leading cause of cancer related death for anyone under the age of 40 and the leading cause of death for children of any disease. More than 90% of research grant applicants are turned away each year, causing these desperate children to lose talented scientists to other fields due to the lack of funding.
Infant and Maternal Health- Only 108 million dollars are allocated annually to address the appalling maternal and newborn death rate experienced in this the richest country in the history of the world. For-profit hospitals pushing for C-Sections have been identified as one of the leading contributors to this phenomenon. Expecting parents should receive proper education and support in order to remain healthy and bring a productive new member into our society. We must prioritize preventative care and end medical profiteering.
Child Abuse- 1,820 children died in 2021 of abuse or neglect. Millions more are subject to sexual, physical and emotional abuse. In 2023 more than 105 million online images, videos and materials related to child sexual abuse were flagged by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Stricter laws need to be imposed on tech giants who allow children to be harmed on their platform. Recorded cases of companies violating child labor laws have increased over 550% since 2015 while several states across the nation currently roll back laws designed to protect minors from dangerous working conditions.
Mental Health Resources- Only 140 million dollars are allocated annually despite the staggering number of childhood suicides and drug overdoses each year. According to the CDC 16 percent of children experience cyberbullying each year. We need to significantly increase our investments in mental health resources that will be available both in schools and online in order to identify the early signs of severe childhood depression.
Gun Reform- Guns are the leading cause of death for kids in the United States, responsible for 20% of all child deaths compared to less than 2% in every other wealthy nation. Approximately 60% of deaths are related to homicide, 30% suicide and 5% are accidental. Whatever your stance is on gun restrictions, most adults agree that children lack the emotional and cognitive capacities to have unsupervised access to firearms. We must work together to find sensible solutions.
Housing- Our countries housing crisis is due in large part to private investors purchasing homes and inflating rents. In 2011 Hedge Funds owned less than 1,000 single family residents. Today they own nearly 600,000. In addition they have purchased hundreds of thousands of multifamily units squeezing renters and forcing more and more families into homelessness. Property sales to foreign buyers totaled 54.4 BILLION in 2021. We must pass legislation outlawing this practice and support working families in owning homes in their communities.
Climate- Due to reduced food production, extreme weather events, increased air pollution, and water scarcity our the future generations will suffer the following increased health consequences of climate change; Respiratory illnesses, zoonoses, malnutrition, food and water borne disease, vector borne diseases, diminished mental and psychological health, noncommunicable diseases and injury/mortality from severe weather events. There are a number of actions that can be taken both on the local and federal levels to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. The time to act is now!
